el Calafate, Argentina

Dan and i left Ushuaia at 5am to head for el calafate at midnight. We had to hang arounf Rio Gallegos for 4 hours and as any traveler will tell you, its a dead town with nothing to do, so...we grabbed two bottles of vino and had some craic :)

We were well behaved but the terminal manager was not so pleased to see us drinking.

I generally do not mention accomodation but i stayed at marco polo which generally has a good reputation in other towns, but please do not go there as customer service is ..well lets leave it at that shall we. After i stayed in America del sur, its the most hospitable, nicest hostle in Latin America and has excellent views of the local lake.

My new mate down from Buenos Aires

And then there is the special Perito Moreno glacier, 5 kilometres wide, with an average height of 74 m in the largest lake in Argentina called Argentino. Its hard to realise but that glacier is 30 km in length. Im sure a few of you are already reminiscing of ur vist, hey caz and T :)

The Perito Moreno Glacier is not retreating, its growing ... and check out the size of it, ..

Ok now here is the special video, if you turn up the volume and listen carefully you will hear the glacier cracking, its pretty amazing but unfortunatly i did not capture and of the boulders of ice breaking away and crashing into the water as it echoes and riples as it pounds into the Argentina lake.
